Singer, songwriter, composer and arranger, Katie Melua is one of the UK’s highest-selling female recording artists of all time, having sold more than 11 million albums and received more than 56 platinum awards. She has released eight consecutive top 10 studio albums. The daughter of a heart surgeon, she was born in 1984 in Georgia’s second-largest city, Kutaisi, then in Soviet Georgia, and spent time in Tbilisi, where her grandfather was a chef, before moving, aged eight, to Northern Ireland and then England. Her live album In Winter featured the Gori Women’s Choir, and her latest, Album No. 8, was partly recorded in Tbilisi. She adores the Georgian culture of feasting with ‘tables overrun with food, and the wine-drinking ceremony … I always love listening to the poems during the toast-making.’

Katie speaks from lockdown in London about her Georgian childhood, coming to the UK, and her inspirations as a singer and songwriter with Maya Jaggi, Artistic Director of Georgia’s Fantastic Tavern.
